Technical Workshop, Manchester

Another day in Manchester – this time improving our technical skills. This was a workshop put on by the Contact Theatre as an extra part of the RSC Open Stages project.

8 of the Drama in the Dale group travelled to Contact Theatre to work with the staff on design, technical and directing skills. For some of the participants this was a new experience whilst others were honing their knowledge.

Within the directing workshop we looked at ways to bring scenes to life without over-intellectualising the moment. A way to give direction so that the actor has precise instructions enabling the audience to create their own back story.

Some good feedback from the other participants ” a dive in the deep end”;  “got us out of our hearts and minds and into our eyes” ; “eye opening and informative” and ” … afternoon session got a bit caught up on health and safety.”.

Hopefully these new skills will come into their own in our production.
